Students Information Systems

Students Information System (SIS) is a software application used in schools to manage student data.Teachers can use this software to enter test scores in an electronic grade book, build student schedules and manage any other student related data in the school.

Student Information Systems is also known as Student Information Management System(SIMS), Students Record Systems (SRS), Student Management System(SMS) and School Management System(SMS).

Some other common uses of SIS are handling inquiries from prospective teachers, handling admission processes, enrolling new students, automatically creating class schedules and handling examination, health and discipline records.

In larger organizations SIS provides further uses for students such as in the United States of America there is (Free Application For Federal Students Aid) (FARSA) and in the United Kingdom there is Students Loan Company Process.

There is now a new generation of SIS built on a modern code-base with online accessibility and a modern database.Schools can now use SIS to provide a means for parents and guardians to connect with the teaching staff through parent portals.

WORD PROCESSORS

Word processors are computer application systems. They help teachers to produce resources to be used in the classroom. They are used for formatting, editing, producing and possibly printing any sort of material. Therefore I find this software of extreme importance to me as a teacher.

Word processors are used to create high quality documents. They allow the user to choose different colours styles and size of fonts. A student can make the title of his report stand out, change the background and adjust spaces between lines and letters. There are auto text and auto correct options which are especially suitable to students.

Word processors have become more suitable to the classroom as it is both teacher and student friendly. The teacher's job is made easier and more effective through them as he/she can create ,
spelling lists, letters, reports and assignments.

Word processors are useful in the classroom as they help students with communication, spelling and grammmar through creating essays and reports. It also encourages creativity and students are motivated by using this software as they feel a sense of pride from being able to produce their own work such as research reports.

Sunnydays

Neetu Singh-Loorkhoor

I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Education degree at the Corinth Campus of the University of Trinidad and Tobago. Before entering into the programme I taught at the Siparia Hindu School for one year. The time I spent there was quite enlightening since it created situations that pointed me in the direction to further my skills as a professional. Needless to say I was elated when I was selected to be a part of this programme.

I am of the firm view that education is power.Power to live.In this ever changing world that we live in education is the key to ensure survival.By involving myself in the field of education I am challenged to my fullest potential while at the same time I am making an important contribution to the future of education in Trinidad and Tobago.
